Keswick

Keswick is a beautiful town on Derwentwater in the Northern Lake District. But isn't as far away as you might think...

By Car

From the South take the A66 westbound from Junction 40 of the M6. (please note that the scenic route from Ambleside and Grasmere is currently closed)

From the North it is possible to leave the M6 at Carlisle and take the A595 towards Workington and then take the A66 to Keswick. Staying on the M6 until Junction 40 may be more direct.

Due to the recent flooding some routes remain closed. Please check the Official Keswick Website for the latest information.

Car Parking

Car Parking passes for the Lakeside Car Park (next to the Theatre by the Lake, postcode CA13 5DJ) from Friday 26th February to Sunday 28th February will be available from the Theatre and the Alhambra over the course of the weekend, at £5.

Thanks to Allerdale Borough council for making the passes available.

There is no parking at the Alhambra but the the town's car parks are within 10 minutes walk.

By Train

The nearest railway station to Keswick is Penrith, served by Virgin Trains. The station is 17 miles from Keswick, but a bus service, taking forty minutes, connects Penrith railway station with Keswick Bus Station. Taxis from Keswick will meet trains at Penrith by prior arrangement.

Birmingham - 2 hours 40 minutes
Glasgow - 2 hours 35 minutes
Manchester - 1 hour 45 minutes
Preston - 55 minutes

Travel from Keswick to Rheged to coincide with Rheged Screenings at 11.00 and 13.30

  • Depart 15.27 arrive 16.02

Alternatively, if you wish to drive, there is plenty of free parking available at Rheged.


By Plane

The nearest international airports to Keswick are Newcastle (93 miles), Blackpool (97 miles) and Manchester (124 miles). Further afield are Birmingham and London Gatwick and London Heathrow.
